A WONDERFUL AND UNIQUE EXPERIENCE

Sardina del Norte on Gran Canaria is a small paradise in the north of the island, away from mainstream tourism. Only 45 minutes by car from the airport, nothing here reminds you of what is happening in the south... So, staying in this quaint little former fishing village with its small sandy beach is perfect if you want peace and quiet, good weather, a nice swim, some sightseeing in the neighbourhood and a trip to Las Palmas (30 minutes by car). The apartment is located in a perfect spot, separated from the beach by a dead end road that is closed to all traffic with an exception for the few owners of some houses and restaurants. Step out of the front door and take a few stairs to the beach that is never crowded. But bring your own umbrella and other stuff. Of course, you get a permit to drive to the apartment with your (rental) car. There is no parking on the street, but you get you own little garage with an elevator that takes you to the second floor and the breathtaking views of the village and the ocean. Tenerife is always visible in the distance. The sunsets are magical. The views are from the large living room with its glass wall, from one of the bedrooms, and from the huge roof terrace reached by stairs on a small terrace adjacent to the large and well furnished kitchen, where you can eat and sit outside. The extremely friendly and helpful couple that own the apartment live in a house that is connected to the apartment on the lower terrace. Both bedrooms in the apartment have two beds. The bathroom is spacious, with a good shower. The apartment can also be reached by stairs, using the front door instead of the lift. There is a one room apartment for rent on the first floor, with its own (separate) bathroom. At walking distance there is a minimarket. At a distance of 5 minutes by car there are two supermarkets, a pharmacy and an all- purpose store, as well as a takeaway caterer. Larger stores and supermarkets are a bit further away in nearby Gáldar. One thing needs special mention: the sound of the surf on the beach is very loud, because it echoes against the high cliff behind the house. Needless to say, it goes on 24/7. I loved hearing it, falling asleep. But it takes a little time getting used to it. Altogether, our stay was a wonderful and unique experience. We were loath to fly back to the noise, the bustle and the cold in Amsterdam...
